“Fall” In Love With Wichita This Weekend

Happy first day of fall, everyone! Since fall is finally here, that means all of the fun fall events begin this weekend. There’s so much going on in Wichita this weekend that it can be hard to keep track, so here’s a list of some events you might want to add to your agenda! For complete details on the most popular events in the Wichita area be sure to check our Wichita Events Calendar.

Avenue Art Days There are so many talented artists in Wichita, and this event is giving them a chance to show off their skills! Avenue Art Days is a free event that will begin at noon on Sunday, September 24th and will go until 4 pm that day. There will be 20 new murals going up, and two will be community art installations, allowing Wichitans to participate in the making of the mural. The community art installations will be under the I35 overpass and at The Workroom. Wichitans are encouraged to come out and help paint the murals. We are surrounded by talented artists whom we will see painting murals, but this allows each person to become the talented artist as well. Plus, won’t it be cool to say you helped paint one of the murals in Wichita? Stop by for this once in a lifetime opportunity! Head to Cleveland and Douglas to pick up a mural map, take 6 selfies with different murals, and you can even win a t-shirt!

Open Streets ICT This event will also be taking place on Sunday, September 24th from 12-4 and will be in conjunction with Avenue Art Days! The streets will be closed from Clifton Square, to Historic Delano for people to walk, bike, dance, explore art, and many other things! A couple of the things Open Streets ICT promotes is improved air quality, increased connectivity among Wichitans, and walking and biking as safe transportation modes. Promoting these things will hopefully lead to overall improved environmental and community health. They are also encouraging us to recognize that streets connect not only our work and play, but our cultures as well! Don’t miss out on your opportunity to explore the streets of Wichita while supporting the health of our city!

Aero Plains Cook Out and Potato Salad Contest - Open Streets ICT This Sunday from 12-4, Aero Plains Brewing will also be hosting a fun event in honor of Open Streets ICT. If you like a good cook out, a cold beer, and delicious potato salad, this is where you’ll want to be! Aero Plains will be hosting a cook out with burgers and hot dogs, and a potato salad contest. The staff at Aero Plains will each be bringing their best potato salads, but it’s not limited to them. Think you’ve got a potato salad recipe that would knock people off their feet? Bring it! Aero Plains is encouraging attendees to participate in the potato salad contest as well. Each participant will receive a vote per beer purchased. Last but not least, the burgers and hot dogs will be free, but if you’d like to contribute and bring a side item, feel free to do so!

Zen Fitness Fun & Physical Activities - Open Streets ICT This Sunday during the Open Streets ICT event, Zen Fitness will be showing you some fun ways to get active! Paint a Pumpkin Pinterest Party at The Colore Studio at Invio A couple of months ago, Invio hosted an ICT flag class in which participants used metal effects paint on their creations. It was so popular that they decided to bring it back and use a fall theme this time! If you're in the mood to put some fall decor in your house, this is the perfect opportunity to do so. Saturday at 1 pm, Invio will be hosting a pumpkin painting class, where participants can choose between copper patina, bronze, or any of the other metallic paints available. There will not only be snacks and dessert provided, but wine will be included as well. Tickets for this event are $45 per person, and will also include 2 large paper- mache pumpkins and one small pumpkin or gourde. You'll definitely want to take advantage of this opportunity to get in the fall spirit while having fun with some fellow Wichitans!

Put a Flag On It! Wichita Flag Screenprint Jam Have you been wanting to expand (or start) your collection of Wichita flag clothes? If so, head to MakeICT this Sunday! If you bring any dark clothing to MakeICT this Sunday, they will print a white Wichita flag on it. There’s no limit on the types of clothes you can bring, so feel free to bring shirts, pants, dresses, scarfs, etc. MakeICT says that the flag looks great on any color like a medium blue. They are willing to give anything a shot, but warn that very thin, wrinkly fabrics may not work out well. There is no limit to the amount of items you can bring, but a $5 donation is suggested per family. This event will last from 1 to 3 pm, so head to MakeICT for some new Wichita flag clothing, and show off your pride for the rest of the afternoon at Open Streets ICT and Avenue Art Days!
