Ten Events to Celebrate Wichita’s Birthday Weekend

Pinterest Party - Wichita Flag Rust & Patina Canvas – The Colore Studio at Invio Celebrate Wichita’s birthday weekend by adding some Wichita décor to your home! The Colore Studio at Invio can help you do just that this Thursday. The event will allow you to unleash your inner creativity while learning the ins and outs of making a rustic, Wichita flag painting! While you’re painting you’ll also have the opportunity to sip some wine, eat desserts, and let your inner artist flourish! The event is from 7 to 10 and includes all of the above for $54. Don’t brush this event off – you’ll regret it if you do!


Thirkin’ Thursday – The Hopping Gnome It’s the third Thursday of the month so you know what that means…Thirkin’ Thursday at The Hopping Gnome! This Thursday, The Hopping Gnome will be tapping a firkin at 6 pm. This firkin will be filled with special, never tasted before, beer! Grab you closest friends, get ready to raise your glass in honor of Wichita’s birthday, and hop on over for a firkin good time!


It's a birthday party, Wichita! – The Workroom It’s quite the accomplishment to turn 147 years old, so celebrate with The Workroom this Friday! The event will give you the opportunity to pick up new Wichita merchandise for 20% off and have some free cake by Monica’s Bundt Cake. The party starts Friday at 11 am and extends to Saturday at 4 pm. Treat yourself to some new Wichita merchandise, cake, and feel the love for this city while doing both!


Molly Neeley Trio Live – Aero Plains Brewing This Friday, Aero Plains will be hosting the Molly Neeley Trio for the first time! This is a good time to go out and celebrate Wichita’s birthday by celebrating our local musicians. This trio is unique because they have vocals, guitar, and a djembe/Cajun drum! On top of that, local food truck LumpiaPalooza will also be there. Did we mention Aero Plains is dog-friendly? That’s right! You and your pooch can both enjoy this fun night out! Come celebrate and enjoy the dog days of summer! Note: Aero Plains also has live music Saturday night and Beer & Yoga on Sundays! Details in Events section.


Wichita Birthday Celebration – XY Bar What good is a birthday party without a little food, fun, and dancing? Join XY Bar for all three this Friday! The party starts at 6 pm and will include free ribs and cake, so get out and get some before they’re all gone! This is a great time to kick back, relax, and party ‘til you can’t party anymore! To top it all off, DJ Bowtie will be joining the party at 10 pm to take you through the rest of the night with some fun songs and good times. Don’t miss out on this one of a kind celebration!


Diversity Jam – Museum of World Treasures If there’s one thing our city loves, it’s live music! Luckily, this event will have just that! The Museum of World Treasures will be hosting a Diversity Jam this Friday. This event will be showcasing Wichita’s local music talent from 6 to 10 pm. This is a fun way to celebrate Wichita’s birthday while also celebrating the diversity of musical talent that Wichita has! There will be bands playing genres ranging from folk rock to cool jazz. Boogie on down to the Museum of World Treasures this Friday to enjoy some music for free!


KEYN Summer Concert Series - Annie Up – Wichita Waterwalk Warning – live music, fun times, and good vibes ahead! This Friday will be third event of six in the KEYN Summer Concert series. This event invites all people of Wichita to come out and enjoy live music from the group Annie Up. While you’re doing that, you can also eat some good food from one of the five featured food trucks! Parking is also free for all attendees who park in the covered garage. All featured food trucks will open at 6:30 pm, and the band will go on at 8. Bring the family (no pets, please!), lawn chairs, and get ready for a fun night in downtown Wichita!


Ron Baker Basketball Camp – Andover & South YMCA Nothing says Wichita more than a former Wichita State Shocker coming into town during his college town’s birthday weekend! Ron Baker will be hosting a basketball camp from 9 am to 4 pm this Friday and Saturday for kids of all ages. The first session (9 am – noon) is for girls in grades K-12 and boys in grades K-3. The second session (1 – 4 pm) is for boys in grades 4-12. This Friday the camp will be hosted at the Andover YMCA, and will switch to the South YMCA for Saturday. The cost is $55 for one day and $95 for both. If you have a little (or big) one who loves basketball, they won’t want to miss out on this event!


Happy Birthday, Wichita! – Wichita-Sedgwick County Historical Museum Keeping with the family-friendly events, this one is sure to have you interested! Saturday, from 1 to 5 pm, the Wichita-Sedgwick County Historical Museum will be celebrating Wichita’s birthday with free admission to the museum! This free admission will also include special tours, crafts and activities for the kiddos, and refreshments to keep you hydrated while you explore Wichita’s history! In order to receive the free admission, each individual or small group must bring a birthday card for Wichita. Pretty good deal, right? We know! Don’t miss out on this Wichita-wesome event!


The 83rd National Baseball Congress World Series Begins! This Saturday marks the opening day of the 83rd NBC World Series! This is an all-day event beginning at 9 am, so feel free to join the crowd at any point during the day. It will also be a City of Wichita appreciation night to celebrate Wichita’s 147th birthday! Tickets are $9-13 and can be purchased online or at the gate. Enjoy some time with good friends or family, eat a hot dog or two, and have fun watching some good ol’ baseball!
