Wichita’s Final Friday and Women’s Equality Weekend!

There’s a lot going on this weekend between Final Friday and Women’s Equality Day! It can be hard to figure out where to go and when with this many events on the horizon. That’s why we’re laying it out for you in the easiest way – districts! Pick the districts you want to start in, the districts you want to end in, and then choose your weekend destinations!

 

Douglas Design District

 

Hopping Gnome Brewing Company – This Final Friday from 6 to 9 pm, Hopping Gnome will feature pieces from artist Jessica Vega! Saturday, they will be celebrating Women’s Equality Day with girl power coloring sheets and $1 off all beers, starting at noon. Top off the night with some live music from Lacey Cruse & Crisis Casanova starting at 8 pm and drink up! 20% of sales will be going to Dress for Success – Wichita.  

The Workroom – If you’ve been craving a fun festival, The Workroom can help you get your fix Friday night! They’re hosting Wichella – a music and arts festival starting at 6 pm and going until 9 pm. You’ll also be able to take a photo with Elga, the yellow VW bus for $10! Saturday, The Workroom will be hosting a Women’s Equality Day Celebration, where if you decide to donate $25 or more, you will receive a free ICT tote bag!

Skin Essentials – This Saturday, Skin Essentials will be celebrating Women’s Equality Day by donating 10% of all retail sales to Dress for Success – Wichita. They also encourage those who are interested to bring women’s business appropriate clothes and accessories to donate there as well. Head on over to get some new skin products and support a good cause!

Monica’s Bundt Cake – Stop by Monica’s Bundt Cake this Final Friday to eat, drink, and enjoy some great artwork from 6 to 9 pm! They will be hosting artwork from local Criseida Becerra, which you can enjoy with some wine and cake. Wine, cake, and art – is there any better trio?

 

Downtown Wichita

 

The Douglas – This Final Friday, The Douglas will be hosting their first Final Friday events! You can shop at the Pop Up Shop at the Douglas Apartments Sky Lounge. This pop up shop will include cocktail tasting, boutique shopping with 25% off all dresses, and an art auction. Proceeds from the art auction go towards St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. The event will go from 5:30 to 9:30. You won’t want to miss out on this fun and unique opportunity!

Under the Bridge III: Pop Up Gallery at Douglas Street Underpass – As usual, the Douglas Street Underpass will be filled with art, music, and good vibes this Final Friday! Don’t miss your chance to experience these things and more. You’ll also be able to contribute your own artistic talent to some artwork if you want! Be sure to stop by – it’s a guaranteed good time!

Wichita – Sedgwick County Historical Museum – If you’ve ever wanted to know more about the man who created our beloved Wichita flag, here’s your chance! This Friday, the Wichita – Sedgwick County Historical Museum will be hosting a one hour illustrated lecture from 6 to 7 pm about Cecil McAlister. This is a great time to learn the history of the Wichita flag while also learning about who created it – get informed, learn some fun facts, and have fun!

Final Friday at Gallery Alley Enjoy a stroll through Gallery Alley this Final Friday! You can find pieces from artist KaCey Green on the wall, and enjoy live music. This event will go from 5:30 to 9 pm so feel free to stop by during any part of your night! On Saturday night, Gallery Alley will transform and host a “Movie in the Alley” event. The movie “The Help” begins at 8pm. 

 

Old Town

 

City Arts – Browse some amazing artwork from two talented artists at City Arts this Friday from 6 to 8 pm! You will see artwork from 4 different artists with themes ranging from transcendence to feminism and much more. Enjoy these unique artwork pieces and spend some time at City Arts this Final Friday!

Final Friday with Phlox: Masquerade Edition – Beginning around 8 pm, you can watch an amazing fire show in Old Town Square! This week is different from previous weeks because it’s a masquerade edition. Witness fire breathing, swords, and hula hoops among many other things this evening with Phlox! The event will go until midnight, so you can stop by at any time!

XY Bar – Help fight cancer by heading to XY bar on Saturday and enjoy some drinks and dancing! They will be hosting a Crawl for Cancer that will include the guys of Dancers 4 Cancer, drink specials, and games. Whether you’re on a team or not, go on in and support a great cause. This event will start at 1 and go until 6 pm, so you have all day to stop by!

 

Delano

 

L’image – Join L’image is hosting their first Final Friday tonight from 6 to 9 pm for their event Capture the Keeper! This event is dedicated to showcasing the various ways that Wichita artists capture the Keeper through their artwork and photographs. This free event will include free refreshments as well, so bring everyone you know and experience the magic of the Keeper through some beautiful art!

Aero Plains Brewing –Final Friday at Aero Plains will include Dial 9’s live music, and delicious food available for purchase from The Kamayan Truck. Enjoy a cold beer, music, and food on this beautiful night from 8 to 11:30 pm. On Saturday beginning at 10:30 am, join Aero Plains in their Personal Safety Celebration for Women’s Equality Day! This event will feature a personal safety class by Fearless & Female, food from Let’m Eat Brats, Brews by Aero Plains, and puppies from Beauties & Beast. The event is free, but has a suggested donation of girls and women’s underwear – size 2T to adult. You can also donate your old cell phones to their drive. These cell phones will then go WASAC (Wichita Area Sexual Assault Center) where they will be converted for survivors to make 911 calls if needed. This is a unique event with a lot to offer – you’ll regret it if you miss out!

Picasso’s Pizzeria – This Friday, Picasso’s will be hosting Meegan Lockwood for her event titled, “Excuse Me, I arted.” Meegan worked hard over the past couple of years to push herself past her boundaries, and is finally ready to show her art to the city of Wichita. Come out and support a local artist will eating a delicious pizza dinner from Picasso’s Pizzeria!
