The 46th Walnut Valley Festival will be held September 13-17, 2017, and will feature more than 30 bands and individual performers, providing a blend of all kinds of acoustic music: bluegrass, folk, old-time country, a little bit cowboy, some Irish, blues, Cajun, and more.
We welcome back the Steel Wheels, John McCutcheon, The Paperboys, Socks in the Frying Pan, Stephen Bennett, Adam Miller, Chris Jones & the Night Drivers, Juni Fisher, Marley’s Ghost, Barry Patton, Andy May, Roz Brown, Tim May and Steve Smith, Still on the Hill, Claire Lynch Band, Nick Charles, John Reischman & the Jaybirds, Linda Tilton, and Della Mae.
We are excited to have at Winfield, for the first time, John McEuen (from Nitty Gritty Dirt Band fame) and Matt Cartsonis, Betse and Clarke with Brushy Creek (though Betse Ellis was a long-time WVF favorite when she played with the Wilders), as well as The Outside Track, Bing Futch, Mark Sganga, Grass It Up, Joshua Messick Trio and the Wall-Eyed Moles.
Eleven pre-festival workshops, delivered by festival performers, will kick things off on September 13. Eight acoustic instrument contests, including two international and five national competitions, will be held over the course of the festival. Along with the National Flat-Pick Championships and the International Finger Style Championships, the Walnut Valley Festival hosts the International Autoharp, National Mandolin, National Mountain Dulcimer, National Hammered Dulcimer, National Bluegrass Banjo, and Walnut Valley Old Time Fiddle Championships.
