Garvey Center is celebrating art of all types at our initial First Friday with a historical theme! Join us to celebrate an award-winning documentary about Wichita’s first amusement park, For Your Amusement: The Wonderland Park on Ackerman Island, and live music/book signing of “Wicked Wichita,” a novel about Wichita’s past notorious criminals, by Joe Stumpe Music alongside our OpenStudios artists and 16 visiting artists.
We’ll also be celebrating the art of food and drink. Enjoy your choice of $5-$7 Wizard of Hops, Red Cicada, Drop Top Caddy, or Red Sangria available from Central Standard Brewing and Perfect Plate‘s full menu available as well as FREE fresh squeezed lemonade samples!
Check out the 20 minute documentary by Sara Joy Harmon about Wonderland Park, Wichita’s first amusement park located on an island in the middle of the Arkansas River, throughout First Friday starting at 6:15 and again every 45 minutes. The film has won “Best Kansas Documentary” and has screened at the Wichita-Sedgwick County Historical Museum, Exploration Place, and Wichita Riverfest 2019.
Come experience art and history with new artists, film, music, and a book signing as you sip and snack on delicious brew and food!
