Free with a Riverfest button!
Participants must be checked in by 1:00 p.m. and be onshore for a rules and safety briefing at 1:15 by the docks north of the tennis center.
Each two-person canoe will participate in an open race category.
Paddlers of either gender ages 16 and older will be allowed to race. Those under 18 must have a signed waiver by a parent or guardian.
Plaques will be awarded to each member of the first, second, and third place canoes.
Pre-registration is highly recommended. Race-day registration allowed only if there is room and will not include a parking pass.
By registering, racers give their consent for Festivals, Inc. to use any photos or videos in which their likeness appears for promotional pur-poses.
At check-in, one member of each boat will draw a number to assign their lane. After the race starts, there will be no need to maintain lane assign-ment. Lanes will be numbered with lane one on the north bank and ex-tend to the south bank. Boats must be in numerical order to begin. Racers will proceed upstream to the 13th Street Bridge, which will serve as the halfway point. Once a canoe has completely passed under and cleared the north side of the bridge, they should turn and go downstream, taking care to avoid other boats. Multiple rescue crafts will patrol the course for paddlers in trouble and will only interfere if signaled to do so. Racers who want to continue may go ashore ONLY to recover from capsizing. Any other reason will be grounds for disqualification. Entrants must complete a waiver acknowledging that they compete at their own risk. Participants should be physically fit enough to complete a 5-mile race. The finish line will beat the west edge of the Nims Bridge east of the starting point.
